Swedish Massage In Chair MassageThe movements from Swedish massage in chair massage are effleurage, petrissage, and tapotement. Effleurage is used to calm and relax the client. Instead of applying lubricant as you would in table massage, you use your fingers, hands, and forearms with no lubricant over the client's clothing. Petrissage in chair massage still uses the grasp, lift, and knead techniques, only these moves are done through the client's clothing. At the end of the massage, tapotement is used on the client to stimulate him/her to be fully alert and not totally relaxed. Tapping and soft pinching are best on the scalp if it is okay with the client as it will mess up the hair. Of course, if the client wants to be left feeling relaxed, do not do tapotement. Tapotement is great to awaken the client up out of the chair and get him/her ready to go back to work or to drive.
