Spa Massage
If you are hoping for employment, spa massage therapy gives many opportunities.
A spa is a great choice for a beginning therapist. Why? Because you will work on a variety of clients with many different body types and personality types as well. This will give you much needed experience to open your own practice later on, if you so desire.
Starting pay for spa massage can be on the low side, paying anywhere from $10-$18 an hour and for the best and most-valued therapists, up to 50% of the actual price of the service which can be anywhere from $60 to $150 depending on the exclusivity of the spa. Plus, there are great tips from rich clients at these places. My massage instructor always used to say that if we would take care of our clients, our clients would take good care of us with tips.
Burnout can occur if you keep up this high-paced job for too long. It is a great way to get experience but pushing yourself physically and mentally in this position for more than a few years can take its toll on your body, especially on your back and your hands.
Get the experience and then use it to open your own practice where you can perform at a more leisurely pace. If you are smart, you have already started your own practice whenever you are away from your day job.
A spa will keep you busy moving from one client to the next, all day long and on weekends when they get most of their business. The one good thing is that you will not get bored at work. You will be so busy that you won't have time to think about anything except what you are doing. Remember to pay attention to what you are doing when you are working. Save the thinking about how tired you are for when you get home!
