Seated Chair Massage

Seated chair massage is a great way to start your massage therapy practice. Why? There are so many reasons.

First, massage chairs are portable and easy to carry--you can take them just about anywhere. They don't take up much space so a massage chair can be set up in a small corner in a hair salon or in a vitamin store at the mall where there is not much room.

Another reason to start your massage therapy practice with chair massage? Low cost of needed supplies. You can purchase a good, lightweight massage chair for about $350 at discount warehouse stores such as Sam's online.

You will need sanitizing wipes and face cradle covers. A roll of good-quality small paper towels split down the middle works well for this purpose. No linens, creams, or oils are needed. This means no laundering sheets and towels after each massage.

Seated chair massage is a great way to start your massage therapy practice because it is inexpensive for the client--between $1 and $2 per minute with the typical session lasting 15 to 20 minutes.

No hassles for the client--no undressing and no oily mess after the massage. Some people are very particular about taking their clothes off for a massage. They just won't do it, even with draping. With seated chair massage, the client's clothes stay on. You provide massage right through the clothing.

You can get a lot of new clients by working a weekend sporting event. Charge a buck a minute and hand out tons of your business cards. Both athletes and spectators will stand in line, waiting for a good chair massage. Be ready to provide one. When the clients compliment you, hand them one of your cards and say, "You should experience my table massage!" You will get calls.

Work as many conventions, fairs, and special events with your chair as you can when you begin your practice.

You can get a variety of clients, some upscale, who will want you to provide them with higher end services such as hot stone massage, 90 minute massage, and paraffin wax treatments.Over time, you will get a good list of clients who book regular table massages with you because you gave them a great chair massage. When you start your massage therapy practice this way, instead of with fliers or direct mailings, your client list will grow quickly.

If you help someone with neck, shoulder, back, or wrist pain during a chair massage, that person will tell a lot of people--word of mouth is a wonderful tool for expanding your client list.
