Massage Therapy Office Savings
Here are some ways for you to save in your massage therapy office. In today's downward economy, the more money you can save, the better off you will be.
If you have several treatment rooms in your office, you can consider subletting one or more of the rooms to other massage therapists. This can help you pay your rent and utilities if you lose a few clients due to the slowed-down economy.
If you choose to sublet, be sure that you work out all of the terms prior to the other therapist(s) moving in. State exactly how much each therapist will pay you per month and state clearly what that will include. Will they pay so much additional for the utilities and/or phone service?
Will the set amount of rent include utilities?
Will he/she have to have malpractice insurance so you are not held liable if something goes wrong with one of his/her clients?
Will the therapist be responsible for cleaning his/her own treatment room?
Will he/she be able to use your cleaning supplies?
Will he/she be allowed to use your kitchen area if you have one with refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot?
How many days a week will the therapist use the office space?
What types of services will the therapist provide his/her clients?
Will the therapist be allowed to bring in or sublet his/her space to another therapist?
Will he/she have access to your linens?
Will he/she have to do his/her own laundry? If so, where will the laundry be done? Will he/she use your washer and dryer and soap?
These items must all be written down to avoid problems in the future.Another way to save in your massage therapy office is to bring your lunch to work, instead of going out to eat lunch everyday. If you go out to lunch each day, you can easily spend $5 to $15 just on one meal a day. That is insane to me. I work because I need the money, not so that I can eat tasty lunches.
Keep in mind also that fast food lunches have way too much fat and way too many calories and if you eat a lot of them, soon your body will have way too many excess pounds on it! That may motivate you more than saving money will!
If you have a small refrigerator and microwave in your office, you can keep your food fresh and heat it up when you want to eat. You can also save money by bringing sodas, juices, and bottled water for yourself instead of going down the street to buy a drink each time you get thirsty. You can pick up a small microwave for about $39, sometimes less, at Wal-Mart and during the back-to-school season, you can get a small fridge there for $89, sometimes less. Do some bargain shopping.
Buy sheets and towels during white sales. Do not pay full price for them. Shop at discount stores, not major department stores for them.
Buy your massage creams and supplies when sales are going on. You can sign up at massage supply web sites to have sale newsletters delivered to your email address.
Use split paper towels as headrest covers. Do not buy them. This saves a lot of money and it is what the professionals do. That is where I learned this tip.
Shop for furniture for your massage therapy office at used stores, garage sales, and estate sales. You do not have to have the very finest, brand new chairs for your clients to sit in. Make sure you have a good massage table and massage chair, but waiting room seats don't have to be perfect.
Make sure you turn the lights off when you are not in a room. Don't leave the lights on in the bathroom or in an unused treatment room. If you know that no clients will be coming at certain times of the day, turn off the lights in your waiting area.
In the winter, keep the thermostat in your massage therapy office a little lower, especially when no clients are around. In warmer weather, don't put the air conditioner down low, again especially when you know that you will not be receiving clients.
