Do you enjoy helping people? Do you like to be with people? Are you told that you have a special touch? Do you give great shoulder or back rubs? Well, maybe you should consider a career in massage therapy.
First, you should do some online research and check out the massage schools in your area. Tour them in person and ask questions. Once you have chosen a school, be prepared to study and work hard. The classroom work is not easy. You will be learning Anatomy & Physiology, with lots of memorization. At the same time, you will learn massage techniques and protocol.
After graduation comes earning your state license, if your state requires this. Then the fun begins. Most successful massage therapists start their own practice. Some get jobs, but those who do will not earn much money, although they will get some great experience.
Starting your own practice is best because you will control your time and you will get to set your own prices and manage your income. Don't forget about paying taxes and city and/or state licensing fees. If you work out of your home or if you start an outcall practice, you will not have to worry about paying rent. This is a great idea, at least at the beginning of your massage therapy career.
Read on for some great tips and ideas on how to begin your new career in massage therapy.
